Abstract

Abstract. The article provides a comprehensive analytical generalization of scientific approaches to the classification and typologization of event tourism in international and Ukrainian academic discourse. The growing importance of event tourism is substantiated as an effective tool for socio-economic development, diversification of tourism products, overcoming seasonality and enhancing the competitiveness of destinations. Particular attention is paid to the role of events as a strategic instrument for destination management, territorial branding and the formation of a positive regional image in the global tourism market. The study analyzes key conceptual approaches to the systematization of events, including hierarchical and thematic models proposed by D. Getz, as well as the contributions of C. M. Hall and G. Richards, who expand the understanding of event tourism through tourism policy, regional development and the economy. It is demonstrated that in international research event classification is closely linked to strategic planning and the formation of event portfolios aimed at increasing destination attractiveness and ensuring sustainable development. The peculiarities of domestic classification approaches are examined, which are mainly based on resource, thematic and organizational criteria. It is established that Ukrainian studies are predominantly focused on the descriptive characteristics of events and their systematization according to content and organizational conditions. At the same time, insufficient attention is paid to the functional role of event tourism. The research identifies fundamental differences in methodological orientations between international and domestic approaches. It is argued that current transformations of the Ukrainian tourism market, including the reorientation towards domestic tourism, intensification of local initiatives and the challenges of post-war recovery, necessitate the adaptation of existing classification models to new socio-economic realities. The article substantiates the expediency of developing a functionally oriented approach to the typologization of event tourism, which takes into account its multidimensional impact on territorial development, tourism product formation and the implementation of regional development strategies.
