MODERN ASPECTS OF THE METHODOLOGY OF ACCOUNTING AND CONTROL OF EQUITY OF DIFFERENT BUSINESS ENTITIES IN UKRAINE
Abstract
The article develops a comprehensive approach to the methodology of accounting for equity of different business entities in Ukraine, taking into account recent legislative changes, National Accounting Standards, IFRS, and the digitalization of the control system. The existing methodology for accounting for equity, based primarily on Class 4 accounts of the Chart of Accounts, is universal but does not sufficiently distinguish between the economic and legal nature of capital in limited liability companies (LLCs) and additional liability companies (ALCs), joint-stock companies, cooperatives, farms, small enterprises, and state- and municipally-owned enterprises undergoing reorganization. The study examines the differences between the legal term “additional capital” used for LLCs and ALCs and account 42 “Additional Capital” in accounting, the issue of classifying cooperative shares as either equity or financial liabilities, the insufficient transparency of capital movements in simplified financial statements, as well as the risk of losing the analytical identity of capital components during the transformation of state- and municipally-owned enterprises into business companies. The article proposes a model of an “equity event passport,” a system of analytical subaccounts, an accounting classification test for contributions based on their economic substance, a transformation statement of capital components, and a mandatory capital maintenance test before profit distribution. The expediency of using blockchain is substantiated not as a replacement for double-entry bookkeeping, but as a cryptographically protected layer for confirming corporate decisions, contributions, changes in ownership interests, dividend restrictions, and audit evidence. A phased procedure for pilot implementation of blockchain-based control is described, involving smart contracts, electronic signatures, hashing of source documents, multi-party validation, and off-chain storage of confidential data. The scientific novelty lies in combining the organizational and legal differentiation of equity with accounting classification based on economic substance and digital control over the life cycle of a capital event — from a corporate decision to its recognition in financial statements and verification of the legality of profit distribution
