THE PECULIARITIES OF THE UKRAINIAN TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS ENTERPRISES’ FUNCTIONING

Abstract

The article considers the current state, the features of functioning and prospects of the Ukrainian transport and logistics enterprises development. In addition to the movement of goods and passengers, transport services include a set of operations that are not a part of the transportation process, but they are related to its preparation and implementation, so called logistics services. The transport logistics sector consists of three main areas of activity: specialized logistics, related logistics and non-core freight logistics. Depending on the specifics of transport and logistics services provided by the enterprises, they can be classified into: transport, forwarding, information and mediation, logistics, services. In Ukraine, the largest share among the transport enterprises belongs to mixed-type companies – transport forwarding enterprises. Despite the fact that Ukrainian transport and logistics enterprises keep pace with global trends, gradually increasing their activities’ volume and enlarging the range of services for the logistics processes coordination and supply chain management, current trends in the global market of transport and logistics services show that Ukraine is at the stage of industry’s formation and consolidation, significantly inferior to Western countries in the quality and transport and logistics services’ complexity. One of the restraining factors in the development of transport logistics enterprises is the insufficient scale of their activities, the Ukrainian logistics market is still awaiting consolidation processes through mergers and acquisitions. The projected expansion of the logistics operators’ activities will allow them to attract the necessary resources and thus gain new opportunities for the development. The involvement of the Ukrainian transport and logistics enterprises in global supply chains requires a transition to a higher level of transport and logistics services, in particular bringing Ukrainian transport and logistics technologies in line with a single pan-European system of the traffic flow management, which will allow to ensure the increasing of the already mentioned enterprises efficiency.
