ACTUAL PROBLEMS OF LOGISTICS CHAINS

Abstract

This article examines the challenges facing the logistics industry and proposes some solutions based on the use of modern technologies and solutions for freight transportation management. The relevance of automating manual tasks, reducing repetitive work, digitizing various processes in planning, organizing, and controlling logistics activities within the enterprise is justified. It is determined that costs associated with transportation can be significantly reduced through consolidation of shipments and maximizing the use of available space. Open and effective communication with carriers is essential for this purpose. In some cases, reducing the number of participants in the process can also improve the situation. Delegating authority to a third-party logistics company to cover transportation costs, as these companies have relationships with various carriers and use shipment consolidation to reduce costs, is one solution to this problem. It is confirmed that identifying and detecting potential errors is critically important, but it can be challenging when there are so many points where communication can be lost. We believe that this can be somewhat addressed through efficient communication and tracking software systems, often integrated directly into warehouse management systems with direct access to customers and partners. It is specified that the supply chain should be characterized by continuous improvement, making supply chain management, as the coordinator of this chain, a very important task. It is argued that today the focus of material flow management is significantly shifting towards information. Any management process, including logistics, is now seen as a process of managing information data and flows. It is proven that this is especially relevant for managing logistics chains, considering their characteristics related to the necessity of integrating and coordinating information flows. Rising oil prices, stringent measures by certain countries to combat the pandemic, and the war in Ukraine have changed not only intercontinental logistics chains but also the logistics industry on a more global scale.
